The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to register a criminal case and investigate corruption allegations linked to the office of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The court has also asked the CBI to submit a status report within two months.
The order came after the Enforcement Directorate sent three letters to the Punjab Director General of Police seeking action over allegations involving the Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty, Rajbir Singh Ghuman, and other individuals.
The allegations include claims related to transfers and postings, access to confidential government documents, arms licences and other government related matters. These remain allegations and have not been established as findings of guilt.
The court directed the Punjab government and state police to provide full assistance to the CBI during the investigation. The matter was taken up following a public interest litigation filed by advocate Nikhil Saraf.
