The Government has notified the Schedule of Permissible Works under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Gramin Act, 2025. The new rural works framework provides for 375 permissible works, marking a 41 percent increase from the 266 works covered under the earlier framework.
The new list has been organised into four main areas: Water Security, Core Rural Infrastructure, Livelihood related Infrastructure, and Special Works for Extreme Weather Events and Disaster Preparedness.
Water Security has the largest share, with 128 works included under this category. These works cover check dams, gully plugs, underground dykes, recharge shafts and injection wells. The category also includes the rejuvenation of rivers, rivulets and nallahs, reclamation of waterlogged land and renovation of field water distribution channels.
All works will be identified through a bottom up and decentralised planning process under the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan. The plans will require approval from the Gram Sabha and will be monitored through the Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack.
The revised Schedule aims to connect employment generation with water security, lasting rural infrastructure, livelihood creation, climate resilience and inclusive development. The framework is intended to support the broader vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
