Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The four day event, which started yesterday, highlights India’s progress in telecommunications, digital connectivity and technological innovation. This year’s theme is “Scale Without Boundaries”, reflecting the country’s expanding capabilities in digital innovation, next generation connectivity and technology driven growth.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said the India Mobile Congress has provided a platform to witness the development of India’s telecom sector and digital connectivity. He said 5G connectivity has now reached every district in the country, with more than 5 lakh 50 thousand 5G base stations currently operating across India.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said technology should reach every citizen and not remain limited to the last village. He stressed that wider technology adoption depends on affordability and inclusion. Mr Scindia said the cost of one gigabyte of data has fallen from 268 rupees in 2014 to around eight rupees today, placing India among the countries offering the cheapest data.
The minister also praised equipment manufacturers, telecom operators and employees across the telecom sector for their role in the rapid adoption of 5G. He said India now has 550 million 5G users and that IMC 2026 will highlight the country’s digital capabilities.
The India Mobile Congress is focused on innovation, next generation digital infrastructure, technology led economic growth, inclusive digital access and secure and resilient digital ecosystems. The event brings together technology leaders, policymakers, industry experts, startups, investors and innovators to discuss emerging opportunities across the digital ecosystem.
This year, the event is also expanding into four additional areas, including smart mobility, stadium experiences, industrial robotics and transport technology. More than 1.5 lakh participants from over 100 countries are taking part, along with more than 500 partners and exhibitors and 600 startups.
