Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has stated that India does not permit monopolies in any sector. He also questioned the Congress party’s position on the approval granted to Starlink to provide services in the country.
Addressing the 10th India Mobile Congress 2026 in New Delhi yesterday, Scindia said that Starlink, Jio Satellite Communications and Eutelsat OneWeb had received licences to offer satellite communication services. He added that spectrum would be assigned to these companies through a revenue sharing system after the government finalises the required framework.
The Minister clarified that companies would be permitted to begin operations only after meeting the required security standards and completing all other regulatory formalities. He said the government aims to ensure that consumers have access to different service options and can freely choose the providers that best meet their needs.
The Ministry of Communications stated that India’s rules for satellite communication services are designed to ensure fair and equal treatment of all operators. It also noted that every licensed company must meet the security conditions specified in its licence. These requirements are intended to maintain service security and protect users and their data.
