Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is expected to achieve its sixth consecutive quarter of record profits, supported by rising global demand for artificial intelligence chips and advanced semiconductor technology. The company, which manufactures chips for major technology businesses, has benefited from increased investment in AI infrastructure and the growing need for high performance processors.
Analysts expect TSMC to report a 65% year on year increase in net profit for the July to September quarter, reaching approximately 746.3 billion Taiwan dollars, equivalent to around $23.4 billion. The estimate reflects continued demand for the company's chip manufacturing capacity and advanced packaging solutions used in AI computing systems.
TSMC plays an important role in the global semiconductor industry, supplying advanced chips to major companies, including Nvidia and Apple. The rapid development of artificial intelligence has increased demand for powerful processors used in data centres, cloud computing services and other advanced digital applications. This trend has strengthened the company's financial performance and supported its position among the world's most valuable technology businesses.
The company recently reported record third quarter revenue of approximately 1.49 trillion Taiwan dollars, representing a 50% increase compared with the same period last year. The result exceeded market expectations and highlighted the continued expansion of its semiconductor business. Revenue for September alone rose 54.6% year on year to 511.86 billion Taiwan dollars.
Strong demand for its advanced 3 nanometre chips is also expected to support further growth. These chips are important for high performance computing and AI related applications, where customers increasingly require greater processing power and energy efficiency. Analysts believe the sustained demand could encourage the company to improve its full year revenue growth outlook from its existing forecast of more than 40% to a range in the low to mid 40s.
TSMC is also investing heavily in expanding its manufacturing capacity outside Taiwan. The company has committed approximately $165 billion to its planned manufacturing operations in Arizona, with a further $100 billion investment announced in July, bringing its total planned investment in the US state to around $265 billion.
Potential expansion into Texas is another development attracting attention. Growing customer demand and future capacity requirements could make additional manufacturing facilities necessary over the coming years. However, some analysts believe there is no immediate need for a new Texas expansion because several planned facilities in Arizona have yet to be completed.
The company has also increased its capital expenditure forecast for the year to between $60 billion and $64 billion, reflecting the substantial investment required to meet demand for advanced chips. Its future earnings outlook and expansion plans are expected to remain key areas of interest for investors.
With AI adoption continuing to expand across industries, TSMC's upcoming financial results will provide further insight into the strength of global semiconductor demand. Investors will closely examine its latest profit figures, revenue expectations and manufacturing investment plans to assess whether the current growth momentum can continue into the coming quarters.
