Ladakh welcomed more than 4.6 lakh tourists between January and September 2026, reflecting a notable rise in visitor numbers compared with the same period last year. The region received 4,20,927 domestic tourists and 39,740 international visitors during the period.
Known for its dramatic mountain scenery, high altitude lakes, historic monasteries and distinctive cultural traditions, Ladakh continues to attract travellers interested in nature, adventure and local experiences. Cultural celebrations and sporting activities have further expanded the range of experiences available to visitors.
Tourism stakeholders are also exploring ways to attract visitors outside the busy summer months. Promoting seasonal attractions and new travel experiences could encourage longer tourism periods and create more consistent business for hotels, transport services, guides and local traders.
As visitor numbers grow, maintaining a balance between tourism development and environmental protection remains important. Responsible travel practices can help preserve Ladakh’s sensitive mountain landscapes while supporting the livelihoods of communities that depend on tourism.
