Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, on Tuesday, has directed the department officials to speed up the work of ongoing project cleaning of Buddha Nullah worth Rs 519 crore so that people can get sigh of relief from the polluted rivulet.
While reviewing the status of the project, the Local Government Minister asked the officials of the Water Supply and Sewerage Board to complete this project within the stipulated time, so that Budha Nullah can be rejuvenate. He said that the Chief Minister S Bhagwant Mann led state government is committed to provide a clean & green environment to the people and delay will not be tolerated in this regard, he emphasized.
Dr. Nijjar said that the main objective of this project is to prevent contaminated water from falling into Budha Nullah. He said that before draining it to Buddha Nullah, the contaminated water will be treated through sewerage treatment Plants and the treated water can be used for agriculture.
Dr. Nijjar said that due to the large-scale growth of industries in Ludhiana, Buddha nullah has polluted badly with chemicals, metal and dairies residues etc., Which poses a serious threat to people's lives. Apart from industrial waste, the sewerage water has also been draining into the budha Nullah.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the state government is committed to make Budha Nullah a pollution free rivulet.
