With less than a week till the high-stakes election in Gujarat comes to a close, the governing BJP and the challenger AAP have stepped up their online outreach efforts to connect with voters through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
At the same time, Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Jodo Yatra" has received more attention from the Congress' primary social media accounts than the party's efforts to promote the two-phase assembly elections on December 1 and 5. Vote tally will be discussed on December 8.
An examination of the three parties' Facebook and Twitter accounts over the past week (Nov. 22–27) revealed that Congress' handles were more engaged with Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Jodo Yatra," as 75% of all postings were about the Yatra.
Less than 20% of the posts on its Facebook page and Twitter account dealt with the party's election campaign in Gujarat.
