The government-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has partnered with Titagarh Wagons and is one of five companies that submitted a bid for the massive contract worth Rs 58,000 crore to build 200 Vande Bharat trains and maintain them for the following 35 years.
 

Other participants in the competition include French rail giant Alstom, the Medha-Stadler cooperation comprising Hyderabad-based Media Servo Drives and Swiss rail equipment maker Stadler Rail, Siemens and BEML, and Russian rail equipment maker Transmashholding (TMH) and an Indian company.
 

According to officials, the successful bidder will receive Rs 32,000 crore over the course of 35 years for the upkeep of these trains, while Rs 26,000 crore will be paid upfront for the delivery of the trains.
