Television actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who was popular for her role in the TV show “Balika Vadhu”, committed suicide on Friday. A Mumbai police official informed that the 24-year-old actress was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence in Mumbai’s Goregaon.
Banerjee was rushed to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri but was declared dead upon arrival.
Confirming the news, the Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni notified about the report deliverd by the hospital authorities regarding the actress’s death. Pratyusha originally belonged to Jamshedpur.
The Police is investigating about the probable cause that led Banerjee to resort to commit suicide.
Banerjee was best known for her debut role in Balika Vadhu. She later on shifted to reality shows and participated in Bigg Boss 7. Her last outing on TV was in Sasural Simar Ka where she played a negative role.
Earlier in January, she was in the news after she filed an FIR in Mumbai alleging that eight policemen tried to ‘barge into’ her house and misbehaved with her. Banerjee had claimed in her complaint that the men barged into her flat in Laljipada and left the place only after she threatened to approach the police.
Before entering Bigg Boss 7 in 2013, Banerjee had made headlines when she filed a FIR against her boyfriend Makrand Malhotra.

Pratyusha’s co-star from Balika Vadhu and a Bollywood actor, Sidharth Shukla expressed shock at the news of her death.”I can’t believe someone like Pratyusha could take such a step,” he exclaimed.
Another participant from the TV show, “Power Couple”, Salil Ankola stated, “Pratyusha and I worked together only a month ago. She was looking forward to her wedding. I just have no words to how shocking this news is. She was a chirpy and fun loving girl. I am still wondering why she took such a step.”
