President of Uganda to return Anti-homosexuality bill to the Parliament. Here’s why:

President of Uganda, Yaori Museveni will return the Anti-homosexuality bill back to parliament to further strengthen it. The bill which calls for stringent punishments on anyone who engages in same sex activity, has been condemned by the global citizens, human activists, and organizations widely.

The ruling party’s chief said “The president will send a bill that contains some of the world’s harshest anti-LGBTQ legislations back to the parliament for amendments”

A body of lawmakers from the National resistance movement discussed the bill with the president and agreed in principle to sign the bill into Law said Dennis Hansen Obua.

“The bill is yet to be returned to the Parliament. It is subjected to the Tuesday meeting but the president in principle congratulated the members of parliament on two fronts: 1) For the strong stand on the anti-homosexuality bill and 2)For rejecting pressure from the imperialists.

said “the bill was being sent back to facilitate the reinforcement and the strengthening of some provisions. The bill remains the anti-homosexuality 2023”

Human right activists say it is among the harshest legislations for penalising sexual minorities anywhere in the world. The UNEP and long list of corporate giants have condemned it as well.

It would impose death Penalty on the so-called ‘aggravated homosexuality’ which includes having gay sex when HIV-positive and 20 year sentences for promoting homosexuality.

The European Parliament condemned the bill and Swedish member Malin Bjork remarked that it is simply horrific imposing a death sentence for being “who we are”
