Parul Chaudhary and Avinash Sable have set new national records in the women's and men's 5000-meter runs at the Sound Running Track Festival held in Los Angeles on Saturday night. Avinash broke his previous national record by more than six seconds with a time of 13:19.30, while Parul shattered the 13-year-old record set by Preeja Sreedharan at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou by more than five seconds, clocking 15:10:35. Both athletes are from the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS).
Parul expressed her happiness at breaking the long-standing record and thanked her coaches, IIS, and JSW Sports for their support. She also credited her training in the United States since April for improving her performance and getting the necessary exposure. Parul is aiming to qualify for the World Championships and hopes to continue improving her results. She is scheduled to compete next on May 19 and plans to perform even better.
