The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is not a cakewalk. Aspirants need to religiously prepare and study for several hours to clear the exam. UPSC exams are a gateway to various posts like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Forest Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS). Only a few candidates succeed in cracking this competitive exam. Stories of various successful candidates have been motivating aspirants to continue working hard during UPSC preparations.
Today, we will share the story of an extraordinary student, who decided to break all stereotypes and take the step of joining the government services after her MBBS degree. Sheena Agarwal was born and brought up in Yamunanagar in Haryana. She topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Pre-Medical Test in 2004. She graduated from AIIMS, New Delhi in 2009. Sheena was motivated to become an IAS, as she wanted to bring a positive change in the living conditions of rural areas. She wanted to focus on these areas’ education, health, defence and cleanliness. That’s when Sheena Agarwal started preparing for IAS.
In her third attempt, she not only cleared the exam but also secured first rank. In UPSC CSE 2010, Dr. Sheena cleared the exam and got an all-India rank of 305. With her dedication, the IAS officer cleared the exam with AIR 1 in UPSC CSE 2011.
According to various media reports, Dr Shena Agarwal is currently posted at the Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana in Punjab as a Commissioner.
She is not the only doctor who chose to leave their profession to become an IAS officer. Dr. Arun Thamburaj from Tamil Nadu also left his medical career and cleared the UPSC CSE 2010 and achieved AIR 6 on his second attempt. Thamburaj is a collector of Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore.
