Govt plans to create 1 crore jobs by 2020 UN report haunts fall in employment this year

 With skill development as a theme, the government plans to create employment opportunities for one crore youth by 2020 under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said 


"The Union Government will be establishing skill development centres across the country with an amount of Rs 12,000 crore to create employment opportunities to 1 crore youth by 2020," said Dattatreya 

This has come days after  a UN labour report has indicated that 2017 could be a tough year for job seekers in the country as job creation in the country is stagnant, which will lead to rise in unemployment.

 

Releasing International Labour Organisation (ILO) report, the organisation had said that economic growth trends lagging behind employment needs in India.


"Unemployment in India is projected to increase from 17.7 million last year to 17.8 million in 2017 and 18 million next year. In percentage terms, unemployment rate will remain at 3.4 per cent in 2017-18," the report said.

 

"To increase employment avenues for job seekers,The Ministry of Labour and Employment is establishing Model Career Centres (MCC) across the country. There are 950 employment exchanges in the country, out of these 100 centres will be developed as model centres at the cost of Rs 350 crore," Dattatreya said.
