Selfish Politics Had Overshadowed Modernisation Of Railways": PM Modi

The modernization of the Indian Railways, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has always been overshadowed by the previous administrations' petty and vindictive politics. The world's first semi-high-speed passenger train on high-rise overhead electric (OHE) terrain, the Ajmer-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Express, was hailed off today by the prime minister via video conference. The prime minister said that after independence, political interests had always taken precedence over the upgrading of the railways at the launch event, which he attended through video conferencing.

"Unfortunately, narcissistic and cruel politics have always cast a shadow over railway modernization. Large-scale corruption prevented the development of the Railways and even prevented the selection process for the Railways from being transparent, the speaker claimed. PM Modi claimed that the revolutionary transition didn't begin until 2014.

"The political interests were taken into consideration while choosing the railway minister. Such trains, which never actually ran, were announced for political reasons. Due to the circumstances, after taking the impoverished people's land, the railways provided them with employment. Safety on the trains, cleanliness, everything was disregarded. Changes to all of these arrangements began to occur after 2014, according to the prime minister.

The context for the Prime Minister's comments was that government agencies were looking into the land-for-jobs case involving Lalu Prasad Yadav, the head of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and a former minister of the railways, and his family.
