Rajya Sabha Refers Breach of Privilege Complaint Against Congress's Jairam Ramesh to Panel

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, has referred a complaint by a BJP MP against Congress' chief Whip Jairam Ramesh to the privileges committee for an alleged breach of privilege over disrespectful remarks against the Chairman and casting doubts on his impartiality. During the last budget session of Parliament, Ramesh reportedly stated that the Chairman should not act as a "cheerleader" for the ruling party and should listen to the opposition. The session was repeatedly disrupted due to the opposition's demand for a JPC probe into the Adani issue, failing to transact significant business. The Rajya Sabha Secretariat confirmed the Chairman's referral of the alleged breach of privilege under rule 203 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha). Another BJP member has filed a similar complaint against Ramesh for disrespecting the chair, but no action has been taken yet, according to sources.
